Reproductions / Centennial Park Reservoir Replica Gate

Sydney Water approached Wrought Artworks in 2001 to reproduce one of these Gothic style gates. Using one of the originals gates that line the circular perimeter of the reservoir, a duplicate was created.  In an incredible cast iron pour we successfully recreated a new 'old' gate. A foundry crew of four pairs were required for this complicated pour, as well as a crew to charge the furnace. The complexity of the mold required four molten iron inlets, the molten metal fusing on contact. The pour was 3 times larger than any previous using the maximum capacity of two furnaces. This project won Wrought Artworks a commendation in the Energy Australia, National Trust Heritage Awards. Simultaneously Wrought Artworks also reproduced some sections of the highly detailed railings from around the parameter of the reservoir.

A documentary titled 'Baking a Gate' by Julia Boros was screened on the ABC.
