Empire Gate - Cast Iron Panel detail - Cast Iron Work - Wrought Artworks - Iron work Australia

The decorative cast iron panel around the sheet metal infill is based on an antique pattern with the
principle that the interlacing broad lines shall pass over and under one another alternatively.
It was hand carved in wood then cast in iron and fixed on with countersunk rivets.

The rosettes in the corners were also hand carved and cast in iron.
The central Akanthos leaf is made in sheet metal with a technique
known as repousage. This sort of sheet metal infil work gives a gate a heavier more private effect.
